Marketing Specialist


Job Information

Essential Functions: Supervise agency or vendor partners to review strategy, deliverables, and deadlines. Collaborate and communicate with in-house program team to ensure marketing plan/calendar/budget is followed by the partners, and program goals are being met. Advocate for the needs of the department, report on the contracted partners progress and evaluate their performance. Collaborate with in-house program team on execution and decisions regarding quantity and distribution of catalogs, brochures, etc. and personally oversee delivery of identified product; including researching, writing, editing, proofing, printing, buying lists and mailing/sending print piece and full integration of print with digital email and social campaigns. Manage the marketing operations of coordinating logistics for events, placing ads, organizing/creating content, printing mailers, ordering promotional items, posting on social media for events. Making timely updates for departmental web pages in keeping with SMU template, department strategy, and marketing best practices. Oversee the email marketing campaigns and automation functions including suggesting, editing and approving email copy and distribution lists in collaboration with program team. Achieve mastery of email automation software (Pardot) templates and calendars to generate drip campaigns, series, communication plans, and program work-flow automation on a per program basis and evaluate performance as part of integrated digital strategy. Report and communicate implementation of annual CAPE marketing plans and performance indicators and marketing budget. Track monthly goals and follow-up with formal quarterly reports; in addition to assisting with ad-hoc reports and sharing dashboards as needed. Ensure team is knowledgeable of all marketing opportunities, initiatives, and performance and educate them on trends. Qualifications Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree is required; preferably marketing, communications, advertising, or journalism. A minimum of three years’ experience in marketing positions focused on planning and execution including traditional (print and media) but primarily digital with social, paid search, and display experience required. 5 years’ experience is preferred. Experience in executing a creative and digital strategy for education is required. Experience in evaluating various online advertising channels to achieve business objectives is required. Project management experience in a corporate customer service environment (an interactive design/advertising agency or software development firm) is desirable. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Candidates must demonstrate strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of constituencies both in writing and verbally with a high degree of accuracy. Candidates must possess strong project-management and organizational skills to effectively set self-direction and institutionally led priorities and managing multiple projects simultaneously. Candidate must demonstrate the ability to work in a team-oriented environment. The ability to be flexible and adapt quickly to changing priorities is essential. Candidate must possess strong problem solving skills with the ability to identify needs and develop solutions. Must also have strong analytical skills and the ability to suggest process improvement. Demonstrated strong sense of initiative is essential. Candidates must possess the ability to create and maintain reports measuring effectiveness of Web-site and e-marketing activities. Experience with database applications and knowledge of basic database structure is essential. Must also have basic knowledge of HTML and Web best practices. Candidates must have familiarity with Web servers and basic internet protocols (FTP, VPN). Proficient in evaluating the technical formats and aesthetic qualities of visual images for use across media is a plus.
